Fingerprints are one of several unique biometric characteristics used to identify individuals. A small scanner device is all that is needed to capture the finger print. Specially designed printers are also available that will also print and transmit the images to remote locations as needed. There are integrated live-scan fingerprinting systems that capture, print and transmit fingerprints without the use of ink.

For some unique situations, it may be necessary to develop multi-technology systems with the ability to analyze three biometric traits — face, voice and lip movement simultaneously.

This offers ease of use and unobtrusive recognition: Users simply look into the camera and say, for example, their name.
